My Hiatus

I know I haven’t posted in a while; shame on me. *wah wah* Charlie Brown.

I know, I know, it’s despicable. I mean, the whole 5 of you who still read this blog (you’re my favorites…shhhh…don’t tell the others).

To get you up to speed, here I am being all cozy and quaint in Charleston with an awesome group of nerdy friends, an awesome church family, and an awesome artsy sciency roommate, and an awesome place to live….and a tolerable job.

I know I’m stalling because of all of the above. I like where I’ve been recently, but I know I’ve been holding myself back from doing what I wanted to do a while ago, before I even started grad school: travel. I want to TRAVEL! Hey there, Inge, who has been traveling all over the world, corresponding with awesome interesting life-fulfilling and self-actualizing letters while I’m…stalling. So, I realized something. If I don’t do this now, I probably never will. SO I’M GONNA DO IT! After my lease is up come April 1st, it’s back to old Kentucky I go to live with ‘rents and g-‘rents for a short while and then I know I’m taking a TEFL course for 4 weeks and then going abroad somewhere to teach English as a foreign language.

Right now, I’m researching TEFL certifications, and let me tell you, they’re quite broad. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

TEFL certification: what I’ve learned to look for

100+ in classroom hours; 6 hrs practice teaching
CELTA if want to seriously work in UK; but also might be ok if take above certification and gain experience.
Need 4 week intensive course.
Do I want to go to another country to get certified and then get to travel while there? (i.e., go to London)?

*gulp* This might take a while…Good thing I decided on this course of action now.
