My Hiatus

I know I haven’t posted in a while; shame on me. *wah wah* Charlie Brown.

I know, I know, it’s despicable. I mean, the whole 5 of you who still read this blog (you’re my favorites…shhhh…don’t tell the others).

To get you up to speed, here I am being all cozy and quaint in Charleston with an awesome group of nerdy friends, an awesome church family, and an awesome artsy sciency roommate, and an awesome place to live….and a tolerable job.

I know I’m stalling because of all of the above. I like where I’ve been recently, but I know I’ve been holding myself back from doing what I wanted to do a while ago, before I even started grad school: travel. I want to TRAVEL! Hey there, Inge, who has been traveling all over the world, corresponding with awesome interesting life-fulfilling and self-actualizing letters while I’m…stalling. So, I realized something. If I don’t do this now, I probably never will. SO I’M GONNA DO IT! After my lease is up come April 1st, it’s back to old Kentucky I go to live with ‘rents and g-‘rents for a short while and then I know I’m taking a TEFL course for 4 weeks and then going abroad somewhere to teach English as a foreign language.

Right now, I’m researching TEFL certifications, and let me tell you, they’re quite broad. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

TEFL certification: what I’ve learned to look for

100+ in classroom hours; 6 hrs practice teaching
CELTA if want to seriously work in UK; but also might be ok if take above certification and gain experience.
Need 4 week intensive course.
Do I want to go to another country to get certified and then get to travel while there? (i.e., go to London)?

*gulp* This might take a while…Good thing I decided on this course of action now.

  1. YAY, I’m a favorite! How exciting this would be. I’d love to travel some day and see the world. I’m just so shy and scared about it. Poor Patrick wanted to move to Japan and my fear totally halted those plans. :/ Can I live vicariously through you? 🙂

    • Of course you’re a favorite! Was there any doubt? 😉

I am somewhat nervous thinking about all of the unknowns, but like I said, I’m the only thing that’s holding me back. I don’t want to look back on my life and regret not going for something I really wanted to try…that and I was bitten really hard by the travel bug ever since TW. Inge hasn’t been helping with her letters.

  2. I’m so excited for you!!!! I have friends in Taiwan teaching English, and they love it. There are many options. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t do what you want, ok? Let’s catch up real soon, ok?

So glad to know that I’ve been able to help infect you with the traveling bug 🙂

    • Yes! I know, I’m my own worst enemy. Let’s talk real soon! Just let me know! I’ll even stay up real late just for you and your crazy schedule! 😉
