Personality

Have any of you ever taken a personality test? I took one last year, just for the heck of it. A friend told me about the Myers-Briggs personality test that he took, so I decided to see what it said. Your result accumulates in four letters. Each letter represents your dominant personality. The four categories include:

1) Extroverted or Introverted

2) How do you perceive things: sensing or intuitive?

3) How do you make choices: thinking or feeling?

4) What’s your “action orientation” toward the outside world like: judging or perceiving?

There are sixteen possible personality types. When I took the test, my result was INFJ: introverted, intuitive, feeling, and judging. The description was extremely accurate–except the part about being a natural leader and liking research. Apparently, the people who share my personality type only make up about 1-3% of the population. No wonder I feel like a nutcase sometimes; apparently there aren’t that many people who understand me and the way I think, or should I say, “feel”.

This link describes this personality type in more detail:

Anyway, the reason I even brought this up was I was wondering what careers they suggested with this personality type. I’m considering switching to getting an MS in education in a program that focuses on science and math for teachers at CofC. It seems like it would open up a world of opportunities, especially since I’d like to go abroad and teach English or environmental education. Here’s the jobs that were suggested for INFJs:

I even found one website that said “lab technician” was a career for my personality type to avoid. While I don’t believe these websites have all the definitive answers for every personality type, they are still interesting to look at.

I’m still looking into several different avenues. I’m going to apply for a job at the Center for the Birds of Prey here in Charleston as a Bird Educator. It is basically taking care of their birds at the Center and training them for flying demonstrations for the public. It sounds like a really awesome job that I would like doing for a while. Please continue to pray for me to go in the direction God wants me to–I feel like my mind is pulling me in a thousand different directions, but I’m not sure which way to go. I just know my place in this program isn’t for me.

And if you guys have time to take the Myers-Briggs personality test (just Google it and I’m sure you can find some online way to take it like I did), please share what your personality is with me!!!
